MP3 At 3PM: Choir Of Young Believers

COYB4365In an era when mp3s and their remixes pass through digital palms like grains of sand, it’s refreshing to come across Peter Silberman’s thoughtful re-working of “Claustrophobia” by Denmark’s Choir Of Young Believers. Antlers frontman Silberman approaches the song with humility, recognizing its effectiveness lies in its simplicity, developing subtle electronic nuances that remain kindred to the original’s organic counterparts. Silberman’s take is hardly a mirror image, though; inching closer to embodying claustrophobia than even the Danish collective’s version, the remix continually builds into a digital swell that recalls the more frenetic (and awesome) character of Björk’s Homogenic-era glitch obsession. Ultimately, it’s a reverent gesture to Choir Of Young Believers’ graceful embrace of experimental and pop song craft. “Claustrophobia” is the third single from the band’s debut LP, This Is For The White In Your Eyes (Ghostly International). In addition to the original and Silberman’s edit, the single features Sian Alice Group’s take on “Wintertime Love.”
