MP3 At 3PM: Wesley Wolfe

wesleywolfe4026North Carolina singer/songwriter Wesley Wolfe took on the ambitious feat of recording his debut album, Storage, in his own home and playing most of the instruments on it himself. Impressively, the result is far more professional-sounding than what you’d expect from a DIY project. Check out the lush “Wintry Mix,” which is slightly reminiscent of Death Cab For Cutie with boyish vocals and a dreamy, romantic ambience. Storage is out April 27 via Odessa Records.

And to think this was done as a “DIY” project? I’d seriously buy this: smooth, nice vocals, good musicality, and a song I’ll likely be humming for the next hour or so. Thanks for sharing and giving me a new album to look forward to adding to my collection.

Introspective lyrics and dreamy, melodic instrumentation. Warm and fuzzy. Looking forward to this one.

[…] My high-school friend and one time musical rival Wesley Wolfe has released his debut LP entitled Storage. Wes has been in some of my favorite “bands-you’ve-never-heard-of.” From the unpolished hooks of his high school band Fuzzcumber to the songwriting mastery of Jehova Chang, Wes has always been a huge influence and inspiration. Storage is no exception to this. Heavy on the acoustic side but with plenty of atmosphere and texture (including distorted guitars and drums), these songs are lyrically smart and well crafted. For fans of Superdrag, Guided by Voices, Archers of Loaf. Download a song here. […]

Keep the song coming WEs, You could alwyas hear music in the wind, the waves and the sounds of the railroad track. Fantastic.
