MP3 At 3PM: Blitzen Trapper

blitzentrapper6562Fond of storytelling, Oregon natives Blitzen Trapper prep for the June 8 release of Destroyer Of The Void (Sub Pop). Nearly a decade since the band’s formation, its follow-up to 2008’s Furr meshes the thrill of rock ‘n’ roll with the rich tradition of folk. Components like hushed snare, harmonica and sparing chords via keyboard made songs like 2008’s “Silver Moon” catchy but fresh. Coupled with Eric Earley’s soft-yet-grounded vocals and the pulse of guitar strums, Blitzen Trapper’s tunes are lush with tangible narratives. Less sleepy than Iron And Wine and more pleasant than Deer Tick, the band’s fifth LP kindles a sense of the familiar while singing a song of its own. With the resounding chords of “Heaven And Earth,” Blitzen Trapper stakes claim over its listeners, birthing a Manifest Destiny of the band’s own.
