MP3 AT 3PM: Rusty Willoughby

Rusty Willoughby, now 44, has spent more than half his life in a series of great bands that skirted the fringes of Seattle’s early-’90s grunge gold rush at a time when being based in the Pacific Northwest was cache enough in the eyes of certain “suits” who couldn’t see beyond current trends. After spending his post-high-school years in cult faves Pure Joy, Willoughby was the frontman for critics’ darlings Flop. It was a tour of duty that found the band releasing one album for a major label, bookended by a pair on Lisa Fancher’s groundbreaking indie imprint Frontier and another on Conrad Uno’s legendary PopLlama, original home of the Young Fresh Fellows. Today, Willoughby is releasing Cobirds Unite (Local 638), which features contributions from Rachel Flotard (Visqueen), Barrett Martin (Screaming Trees), Barb Hunter (Afghan Whigs), Maggie Bjorklund (Mark Lanegan) and Johnny Sangster (Mudhoney). I really like this CD…
I just heard the ‘Cobirds Unite’ CD by Rusty Willoughby; went to
http://www.spinner.com/new-releases#/10
to hear the CD.

I can’t wait to buy it so I can burn to CD & listen to it my car.
Great stuff (would kind of expect no less from Rachel’s record label, no wonder).

Anyway, that’s my feedback…TWO THUMBS UP, and then some.
🙂

Most Sincerely,
ATL Fletch
