Wye Oak Is Keeping Company With: Thor (And His Rules)

Over the course of three surprise-filled albums, Wye Oak has artistically come of age in the public eye. Singer/guitarist Jenn Wasner and drummer/keyboardist Andy Stack mesh spellbinding folk-rock melodies with a dynamic range that shifts, in the blink of an eye, from the parlor to the garage. Andy: Our wonderful friend Thor Harris plays with Shearwater, Swans, Angels Of Light, etc. He is very wise and has compiled a list of rules about how to be a touring musician which has added much insight and levity to our lives. A favorite of ours reads, “Don’t make evaluations about your life while sitting in a janitor closet waiting to go onstage. You think you’re above having bad days at work? Shut up, and do your job.” He is also a great artist, as you can see:

Yikes! When I saw the picture, I thought it was Canadian metal singer (and cheeseball) Thor, not the viking in question. For an unrelated, completely comedic take on this article, feel free to look up the “Thor” I’m chuckling about.
