Long-running musical collective Early Day Miners (now going under the pared down EDM) return with Night People, the band’s latest effort and first for Western Vinyl since the label released EDM’s debut in 2000. Along with the shift back from Secretly Canadian (the band’s label for the past decade) and a shortened moniker comes a far less pastoral sound than has previous characterized the work of Daniel Burton and Co, too. “StereoVideo,” the album’s first single, teases out this evolution by introducing us to a more groove-focused side of EDM, at times recalling the dark lens of Joy Division and others the rock ‘n’ roll pluck of Tom Petty. Night People is out July 19.
