From The Desk Of Oneida’s Kid Millions: La Monte Young And Marian Zazeela’s Dream House

In 2008, Oneida began the Thank Your Parents triptych with Preteen Weaponry. Since, the Brooklyn band—Kid Millions, Bobby Matador, Baby Hanoi Jane, Showtime and Barry London—has completed it with 2009’s Rated O and the new Absolute II (Jagjaguwar). The quintet is touring Europe in August and is also playing the Asbury Park, N.J.-based All Tomorrow’s Parties in October. In addition, Millions will be guest editing magnetmagazine.com all week. Read our brand new Q&A with him.

Millions: Down in the heart of the TriBeCa nightmare, this small sound and light sculpture blasts out continuous vibrations. Dream House is in the apartment above La Monte Young and Marian Zazeela’s actual living space. Maybe they own the building. It’s a suggested donation, and the place is staffed by volunteers. Forty specific tones are generated continuously by a computer/synthesizer and PA from four corners of the room. There’s incense, an altar, pillows and a carpet. Drop this in your bucket list. There’s actually a scene from the movie where Jack Nicolson and Morgan Freeman hang out there one morning after skydiving.
