From The Desk Of The Twilight Sad’s James Graham: Tattoos

On their latest, No One Can Ever Know (FatCat), Scotland’s best musical export since the Jesus And Mary Chain tear down their walls of guitar noise to reveal the icy synths beneath. For fans, it’s a radical departure for the Twilight Sad that’s nevertheless easy to digest, as frontman James Graham’s distinctive Scottish vocals and gloomy lyrical outlook remain front and center. Graham will be guest editing magnetmagazine.com all week. Check out coverage of the Twilight Sad in issue #85, as well as our extended Q&A with Graham.

Graham: I got my first tattoo the day after we played one of our biggest Glasgow shows back in 2010, starting with a couple of the first aid diagrams that were in the artwork from our first album. I like black line tattoos with little or no colour, and Kev Younger from Lucky Cat Tattoo Parlour in Glasgow was recommended as he specialises in fine line tattooing. I’ve designed all the tattoos I have, to go along with the artwork ones, and Kev has done them all so far. I suppose they’re kind of similar to the style of Duncan X, who is a tattoo artist based in London, and Russian prison tattoos.
