Leading up to a new book and EP, Will Oldham, more famously known as Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, has released a video for a reinvented version of the title track from 1999 classic I See A Darkness Dancing through Glasgow, Oldham sings cheerfully with an endearing goofiness. It’s a stark contrast to the dark, bleak style of the original rendition, but the initial shock turns out to be refreshing. The different tone creates a different theme, changing a sound that conveyed a sparse alienation to an upbeat ode to friendship. Oldham’s book, Will Oldham On Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, comes out June 4, and the Now Here’s My Plan EP appears July 24 via Drag City. Check out the video for the revamped “I See A Darkness” below.
