From The Desk Of The Spinto Band’s Sam Hughes: Dogfish Head’s Positive Contact

The members of Wilmington, Del.’s Spinto Band have been playing together since the mid-1990s, when they were still in high school. A decade and a half later finds Nick Krill (vocals/guitar), Thomas Hughes (bass/vocals), Jeffrey Hobson (drums), Sam Hughes (keyboards), Joey Hobson (guitar) perfecting pop sounds on the recent full-length, Shy Pursuit, in their newly built recording studio, scoring films, starting a record label and searching for the perfect cup of coffee. They will also be guest editing magnetmagazine.com all week. Read our brand new Q&A with Krill.

Sam Hughes: I’m not sure if I’ve anticipated a product this much since the launch of the Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time back in 1998. When one of my favorite and hometown brewing companies, Dogfish Head, announced a beer collaboration with the producer of one of the best hip-hop albums of all time, I pretty much flipped my lid. Positive Contact is a beerish-cider made with input from Dan “The Automator” Nakamura that was released in a special package that includes four unreleased remixes of tracks from the classic Deltron 3030 album on a 10-inch vinyl and six 750-ml bottles of the beer. The pack also includes recipes from top-notch chefs who created dishes that pair well with both the music and the beer. Oh yeah, also included in this news was the fact that a brand new Deltron 3030 album would come out sometime later this year.
