From The Desk Of The Kellys: “Blue Is The Warmest Colour”

Whenever Jeff Kelly takes a break from piloting Seattle’s Green Pajamas on their world tour of uncharted psych/pop waters, he likes to collaborate vocally with a woman. Until now that person has been GPJ alternate lead singer Laura Weller in a partnership called Goblin Market. Kelly didn’t have to venture far from the home fires for his most recent female vocal foil. With his wife Susanne as an equal partner, the pair has come up with By Reckless Moonlight (Green Monkey), a little gem that visits places no Jeff Kelly LP has been before. Susanne may insist she’s not really a singer, but her voice knows just the right moves to counterbalance Jeff’s ethereal sound from a previous lifetime. The Kellys will be guest editing magnetmagazine.com all week. Read our recent feature on them.

Jeff: I guess there is really not a lot to add to what has already been said about this film except that Susanne and I just loved it! And not just for the famous sex scene. The film is gorgeous, the script super and the acting perfect. This movie is exhilarating and heartbreaking, and I think most anybody, of any sexual orientation, who has suffered a “tragic” first love—and let’s face it, that’s most of us—will be moved by Adèle Exarchopoulos’ performance. Léa Seydoux is absolutely pitch perfect as the older girl, Emma, and Exarchopoulos is breathtaking and pretty much astonishing as Adele. Where were their Academy Awards?? A friend said the first 45 minutes of this film, before Emma arrives, seemed endless. I thought they just blew by. He said the film was like watching paint dry. That’s his opinion, but I would just reply that it’s the most beautiful paint I’ve ever seen, dry or wet.
