From The Desk Of Britta Phillips: “Exposed: Songs For Unseen Warhol Films”

You know Britta Phillips from the bands Luna and Dean & Britta, but now she has a debut solo album, Luck Or Magic. The record features five Phillips originals alongside covers of songs by the Cars, Evie Sands, Fleetwood Mac, Dennis Wilson and ABBA’s Agnatha Fältskog. Phillips will be guest editing magnetmagazine.com all week.

Warhol

Phillips: Not to be confused with 13 Most Beautiful: Songs For Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests, a show Dean & Britta did for years, performing music beneath projections of 8mm films Warhol shot between 1964 and 1966. This new show is curated by Dean and also features Tom Verlaine (Television), Martin Rev (Suicide), Eleanor Friedberger (Fiery Furnaces) and Bradford Cox (Deerhunter). I play in both Eleanor and Dean’s band. We only played a few shows last year, and I’m really looking forward to doing it again soon in France. Unfortunately, its not gonna get around like 13 Most Beautiful due to the number of artists involved. There are 15 films, three per artist, ranging from “home movies” to surreal portraits, featuring superstars and luminaries such as Edie Sedgwick, Marcel Duchamp, Donovan and Andy Warhol himself. Here’s a dress rehearsal shot for posterity.
