From The Desk Of Blossoms: Travel

British quintet Blossoms is unapologetically ambitious. Rather than quietly release 2014 debut single “Blow,” the band announced it with an ardent, online manifesto. “We want to be heard by everyone,” it read, in part. “We want to be as mainstream as Will Smith, as great as the Smiths, and as uplifting as Mr. Smith Goes To Washington.” The band has just issued its self-titled debut. Blossoms will also be guest editing magnetmagazine.com all week. Read our new feature on the band.

Charlie Salt: Being a touring musician takes you to lots of overwhelming and underwhelming places (mentioning no names in specific!), and that’s something I’m truly grateful for. Even before the band came along, my parents used to drag me and my brother George out of school at any given opportunity and take us to all these wonderful places. You don’t realise at the time and you most certainly take it for granted, but looking back, it’s definitely shaped me into a very versatile person who isn’t afraid to embrace the peculiar. Not to sound all philosophical and patronising, but traveling is education within itself. It opens your mind to the unknown and makes you think about things from a completely alternate angle. Living in an age where nothing is out of reach, places far and wide are accessible with a couple of clicks of a mouse, and we’re very lucky for that. The people you can meet and the absorption of different cultures is something you can’t put a price on. In almost every country I visit, I always attempt to learn a few phrases and dialect, not always successfully I must confess!
