James Johnston: Robert Burns is the most famous export from our part of the world, if you discount Johnnie Walker of the famous whisky. Burns is celebrated for his romantic view of life in Scotland some 250 years ago, but I feel some of his musings and ideas are not out of place in the modern world. His thoughts on liberalism and justice appeal to me, and the idea of “man and natures social union” is an increasing factor in our lives. So for “auld lang syne,” let’s look after the world we’ve got.
