From The Desk Of Tigers Jaw: Mount Eerie’s “A Crow Looked At Me”

Spin, Tigers Jaw‘s latest album, is a glowing set of pop/rock tunes that denotes a shift in the band’s timeline. As the first release for producer Will Yip’s Atlantic Records imprint Black Cement, Spin is Tigers Jaw at its most composed and polished. But Brianna Collins and Ben Walsh still build upon their penchant for dizzying, unexpected hooks and bare, honest songwriting. Tigers Jaw will be guest editing magnetmagazine.com all week. Read our Q&A with them.

Mount Eerie: A Crow Looked At Me

Walsh: I’ve been a fan of Phil Elverum‘s since I started playing music. This album is a crushingly real account of coming to terms with the death of a loved one. The story behind it is fascinating and jarring, and it’s a completely unique addition to an already fascinating and vast catalogue of work. The stream-of-consciousness-style lyrics are soul-crushingly honest, so maybe take this one in small doses.
