MAGNET’s Hobart Rowland was there to document the third date of Pete Yorn’s intimate You & Me acoustic tour at Ardmore Music Hall outside Philadelphia. Warming up the room with a haunting spin on Bruce Springsteen’s “Atlantic City,” Yorn went on to serenade the Thursday-night crowd with a set that favored tunes from his much-lauded 2001 debut, musicforthemorningafter (read our MAGNET Classics article on the making of this great LP here), and 2016’s unjustly overlooked ArrangingTime.
The requisite sing-alongs ensued during better-known tracks like “Life On A Chain” and “Strange Condition.” For diehards, numerous highlights included a taut version of “Undercover,” Yorn’s 2002 contribution to the Spider-Man soundtrack, propelled by an unexpected kick-drum pedal; “Precious Stone,” a standout from his 2010 collaboration with the Pixies’ Frank Black; and a beautiful take on “Bandstand In The Sky,” Yorn’s tribute to Jeff Buckley from 2006’s superb Nightcrawler.
