Live Review: Cowboy Junkies, Collingswood, NJ, Feb. 1, 2020

With her warm, husky voice and intense presence, Margo Timmins has a paradoxical way of inhabitIng songs with languor and urgency, making each one of Cowboy Junkies’ originals and their well-chosen covers seem untethered to time yet firmly rooted in the moment.

In two sets at the Scottish Rite Auditorium roughly divided into new material and old, highlights included All That Reckoning’s “Nose Before Ear” and “Shining Teeth” and classics like “‘Cause Cheap Is How I Feel” and “Misguided Angel,” as well as a jaw-dropping, practically poppy reading of Vic Chesnutt’s emotionally taxing “Flirted With You All My Life.”
