MAGNET Television: Q&A With Rhett Miller (Old 97’s)

We reckon the only active American band that’s been around longer than the Old 97’s and still has all its original members is ZZ Top. While Rhett Miller and Co. are almost a quarter century behind their fellow Texan troubadours in terms of longevity, the fact that the Old 97’s—Miller, Murry Hammond, Ken Bethea and Philip Peeples—have stayed together for 27 years is even more impressive than their streak of stellar albums. Like its predecessors, Twelfth (ATO)—yes, their 12th studio LP, featuring a dozen songs—won’t solve all your problems, but it’s another melodic missive from Miller and the men to their friends forever: Hang in there. Give it time. Turn off the TV. These most-messed-up, desperate times will get better.
