Vote: The Whole World’s On Fire Right Now

16 years ago, we did a special political section—featuring contributions from Sleater-Kinney, Henry Rollins, Ani DiFranco, Steve Earle, Joan Baez, David Cross and many more—prior to the Bush/Kerry election because, as issue #65 cover star Tom Waits so perfectly put it, we felt like “the whole world’s on fire right now.” We felt our country was going in the wrong direction and wanted to add our voices to those desperately calling for hope and change.

For as bad as things were in 2004, that’s nothing compared to now, under the most destructive, dishonest, narcissistic, racist, unqualified, incompetent president we’ve ever had. In 2020, not only again is the whole world on fire—now figuratively and literally—the whole world is watching the United States, seeing if we’ll do the right thing on November 3.

We are better than this. This is the time we need to prove it to ourselves and the world. If you haven’t voted yet, please do so.

We are better than this.
