Despite its ever-rotating cast, matt pond PA is a 12-year-old outfit that was seven LPs deep until this April, when the band released its eighth album, Dark Leaves. The video for “Starting,” the new album’s first track, uses a less-is-more aesthetic. For the better part of three minutes, we watch three of the band members running in slow motion, in what would be a Baywatch mock-up, if they weren’t all wearing blue jumpsuits. matt pond PA’s signature melancholy melodies and ghostly vocals return here as the soundtrack to a gallant rescue mission.
