MP3 At 3PM: Silje Nes

Norwegian singer/songwriter Silje Nes knows how to work with what she’s got—and, fortunately, that’s a lot. Her sophomore album, Opticks (out October 12 on FatCat Records), was home-recorded, with Nes playing every instrument on each song, including more unconventional ones such as viola, xylophone and concertina, among others. “The Grass Harp” quite literally washes over you with ocean waves and acoustic guitar before bursting into a lovely blend of sounds topped off with Nes’ breathy feminine vocals.
