Strange Powers: Stephin Merritt And The Magnetic Fields is documentary directed by Kerthy Fix and Gail O’Hara about, you guessed it, Stephin Merritt and the Magnetic Fields. The two filmmakers spent the past decade making the 82-minute Strange Powers, which features interviews with Merritt fans such as Carrie Brownstein, Peter Gabriel and Sarah Silverman. The film kicks off its theatrical run at the Film Forum in New York on October 27, with screenings scheduled for November in Philadelphia, Barcelona, Glasgow, Oslo and other cities. An opening reception for the film’s NYC run will take place October 28 from 5-7 p.m. at Other Music and feature Merritt as DJ. Check out the Strange Powers trailer below.
