“Still Sound” is a jazz-and-funk-inflected track fromĀ Toro Y Moi‘s sophomore LP, Underneath The Pine, which is out February 22 via Carpark. Main man Chaz Bundick lays down some groove-based (read: no samples) funk but still manages to layer on some gauzy reverb and hypnagogic electro a la 2010 breakout Causers Of This. “Still Sound” is looser and arguably more accomplished than Causers and more shambling and immersive than the “Leave Everywhere” single, and Bundick seems poised to be the first of the so-called chillwave artists to break out of that subgenre. With his earnest pop experiments and candidly simple lyrics, Bundick proves himself to still be an artist to watch.
