The Flaming Lips are ready to release a brand-new song, “Found A Star On The Ground” (Warner Bros.), which clocks in at a mind-blowing six hours and will benefit the Central Oklahoma Humane Society and the Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma. The track will be contained within a toy, the newly developed Strobo Trip, which will contain two shorter new songs. The band plans to outdo itself even further with a song that will span 24 hours, currently in the works … Chronolology is the tongue-twisting name of Robyn Hitchcock’s first career-spanning best-of collection, due out digitally on October 25 via Yep Roc. The album was curated by Hitchcock and includes songs from his work as a solo artist as well as a member of the Soft Boys, the Egyptians and the Venus 3 … Also doing the best-of thing is Gorillaz, which is celebrating a decade with The Singles Collection: 2001-2011. It’s out November 29 via Virgin … On October 24, you’ll be able to watch a full 20 hours of Miles Davis with 10-disc boxed set The Definitive Miles Davis At Montreux DVD Collection 1973-1991 (Eagle Rock) … Calexico’s limited-edition, hand-numbered boxed set, Road Atlas 1998-2011 (Quarterstick), will be released November 22 and contain all eight of the band’s self-released tour albums from the past 14 years. Only 1,100 copies will be made available worldwide … On November 1, the companion to the DecemberistsThe King Is Dead will be issued. Long Live The King (Capitol) is a b-sides EP featuring six outtakes from the album. On October 22, the band will appear on Austin City Limits … The Cranberries will return with their first studio album in more than a decade, Roses (Downtown), on February 14 … Also returning is Garbage, currently working on its first studio LP in seven years with plans for a spring 2012 release date … On October 25, a limited-edition boxed set from Deftones will be available. Deftones: The Vinyl Collection, 1995-2011 (Reprise) will contain the band’s six studio albums … Rooney frontman Robert Schwartzman is set to self-release his solo debut, Double Capricorn, on October 25. All the proceeds from the album will benefit the Tibetan Healing Fund, and the LP will be supported by a tour this fall … John Prine’s The Singing Mailman Delivers is a two-disc set featuring live and studio tracks from 1970, the year before he was signed to Atlantic Records. It’s out October 25 via Oh Boy.
