Every week, we’ll be posting a new illustration by David Lester. The Mecca Normal guitarist is visually documenting people, places and events from his band’s 39-year run, with text by vocalist Jean Smith.
Yes, I see the pizza slices almost every time I’m in the 7-Eleven shipping paintings. They are entirely resistible, but on this day, I decided to have a slice. Neither looked appetizing. Pepperoni (blistered and curled) or Meat Lover’s (which was interesting because it appeared to be a half teaspoon of gray crumbly bits sprinkled on cheese). I got a slice into its cardboard crate and went to the cashier.
“Pepperoni or Meat Lover’s?” she asked.
“Not Pepperoni,” I said because I simply couldn’t say Meat Lover’s.
