MAGNET Exclusive: Premiere Of Snacktime’s “Sweet Treat (Will U Be My Luv?)”

Snacktime’s latest single was inspired by classic Detroit house music and the definitive funk history of the band’s (and MAGNET’s) Philadelphia hometown. An earlier instrumental version of the tune can be found on the seven-piece outfit’s 2022 album, Live From The Street.

“We added lyrics to tell the story, and the new incarnation was born,” says the band. “We took that to legendary producer Will Yip, and it took on a new life. It became an amalgamation of that Detroit sound and the unmistakable rock grit Will is known for.”

With its horn-driven collision of soul, funk, R&B and hard rock, Snacktime essentially came out of nowhere to become a pandemic bright spot in 2020 with its free shows in Philadelphia’s Rittenhouse Square. They’ve also served as a house band of sorts for the Philadelphia 76ers—and last year, comedian Eric André hired them to play his 40th birthday party, where they performed a whopping six-hour set. This past spring, the group made waves at the South By Southwest Music Festival in Austin with its Snacktime Sixers jerseys and vibey, high-energy shows.

“Sweat Treat” is part of an upcoming EP that’s currently in the works. To flesh out the vocal, Snacktime turned to a good friend. “We approached Brooklyn-based singer Alita Moses (Shawn Mendes, Corinne Bailey-Rae) to help tell the tale of two lovers who are only satisfied with the sweetness they get from each other,” the band says.
