MAGNET Exclusive: Premieres Of Matt Bohannon’s “On The Moon With A Cigarette” And Marty Bohannon’s “Fall City”

Two brothers, two new releases: Matt Bohannon’s Go Back To Your Roots and sibling Marty’s A Scar Is Born, both available February 28 via Cornelius Chapel. For more than two decades, the two have steered the durable Southern-rock quartet that bears their last name. When they’re not playing music, they’re running things at Chattanooga, Tenn.’s Cherry Street Tavern, one of the best live venues in the state.

After the Bohannons’ equally raucous and tightly wound 2023 LP, Night Construction, the guys have opted to go the solo route for the first time. “On The Moon With A Cigarette” is the closest younger brother Matt is likely to come to a public-service announcement. “It’s a song about the life of a smoker and how they’re always finding themselves taking smoke breaks in strange and unfamiliar places,” he says. “It’s so strange that addiction will lead you to the edges of the earth and beyond. It’s the reason I quit smoking.”

“Fall City” is Marty’s tribute to Louisville, Ky., so nicknamed for its proximity to the Falls Of The Ohio. “It’s where heartbroken clowns like me go to get away from it all,” he says. “Lotta champs up there—lotta sluggers.”

We’re proud to premiere both tracks.
