In the 1960s, protests were against pollution, the war and the establishment, which meant capitalists and the government. Now that I’m on the old side, I think I’m supposed to be quiet to give young people their kick at the can, except that apparently 30% of them are disillusioned with democracy, showing a greater openness for authoritarianism, under which the demise of the environment will accelerate, while progress made on human-rights issues is eroded.
It would appear that all voices of dissent are necessary to resist what is happening everywhere as disinformation bolsters far-right agendas either little by little or in bombastic displays of power.
