Every week, we’ll be posting a new illustration by David Lester. The Mecca Normal guitarist is visually documenting people, places and events from his band’s 42-year run, with text by vocalist Jean Smith.
By 2002, when The Family Swan album was released, I was writing novels, segments of which morphed into song lyrics. “What About The Boy?” is a good example of that, but it’s a better example of what David was able to accomplish with one guitar in a live setting. It was a very new song at this point. I think I was nervous and not my usual hilarious self. David’s creative mastery is utterly mesmerizing!
