Wormburner has never been short on imagination when it comes to song subjects. “This one is about a damaged war veteran who returns stateside in search of a long-lost army nurse,” says bandleader Hank Henry about “Maryann.”
Plugging away for 20 years now, Wormburner kicked things off in 2006 with a debut album (A Hero’s Welcome) produced by David Lowery at his Richmond, Va., studio. The new Last Of The Winter Light (Dive), the band’s fourth studio LP and first in more than a decade, was mixed by Phil Palazzolo (Okkervil River, New Pornographers, Neko Case). It offers more of the same sharp-witted, consistently tuneful fodder for the indie-rock imagination that fans have come to expect from the resilient Brooklyn sextet.
Winter Light’s latest single has a certain timeless feel. “The setting could be present day, or it occurred to us that it might be a story that happened 80-plus years ago,” says Henry. “So we went digging for some vintage footage, and we stitched together the music video. I think it really works.”
We’re proud to premiere Wormburner’s “Maryann” video.
