“Across The Country” is the crucial thematic anchor to the album Alex Bloom always wanted to make. “It represents a time in my life when I had to face the consequences of a big decision,” says Bloom. “The album deals with my experience of moving home to Los Angeles from New York City after falling in love—and choosing to move even though it put my relationship in jeopardy.”
Available Friday, Across The Country (Mr. Saturn) is Bloom’s third LP. His first, 2017’s Blue Room, was part of his senior thesis as a music composition student at the University of Southern California. Heading east after college, he met his future wife in New York City, releasing Chaos/Control in 2019. All the while, he continued to plug away at the confessional chamber pop that most accurately reflected his obsession with Elliott Smith. Those 15 tracks would eventually become Across The Country.
All settled in L.A., Bloom is finally releasing his autobiographical passion project. And he’ll always have “Across The Country” to beam him back to a pivotal time in his life.
“Musically, the song feels like being in two places at once and ending up feeling you’re nowhere at all as a result,” he says. “In the video, we wanted to capture the themes of packing up, moving and traveling—and that nostalgia for all the memories made in a place you may never return to. The video features my wife, so the story has a happy ending.”
We’re proud to premiere Alex Bloom’s “Across The Country.”
