It’s back to square one for Nick Vivid on his latest single. “It’s about getting another chance and appreciating it more the second time around … or third or whatever,” says Vivid.
Starting over is a common thread throughout the lo-fi electro-funk visionary’s 10-year catalog. Out Friday, Volatile (MegaPlatinum) is a loosely autobiographical concept album with a glammy, disco-fied swagger.
“These songs are me looking back at a time when everything felt raw and uncertain,” says Vivid, the son of radio DJ from Buffalo, N.Y. “It’s about the people I met, the mistakes I made and the dreams I kept chasing even when they felt out of reach.”
Volatile is largely a self-assembled affair, with Vivid cobbling together much of the recording gear himself, from homemade guitar pedals and synth filters to custom preamps modeled after the late-’70s handiwork of the great Giorgio Moroder.
“With this album, I finally feel like I’ve built the studio of my dreams and captured the sound I always imagined in my head,” says Vivid.
We’re proud to premier Nick Vivid’s “First Kiss” video.
