For his first original music in eight years, Grayson Capps makes a pretty brash move, climbing into the skin of a young Southern woman at a time when reproductive rights are in crisis.
“The seed of ‘My Body’ begins from her perspective,” says the Alabama-based troubadour.
During his extended break from songwriting, Capps was busy tending to family matters when not performing. In 2020, he released South Front Street, a 16-song retrospective. 2024’s Heartbreak, Misery & Death is a collection of folk songs and traditionals originally performed by Doc Watson, Jerry Jeff Walker, Randy Newman and others—music passed down to Capps by his father, who died that same year.
As for “My Body,” it’s a classic protest song for a world that could use few more of those right now. “It speaks for the tolerant and empathetic people of the world who are being pushed into a corner against their will and the need to stand up to the forces of malevolence,” Capps says.
We’re proud to premiers Grayson Capps’ “My Body.”
