Over the past few years, badsoma has evolved from the solo project of Iranian-American multi-instrumentalist/songwriter Armin Fard into a six-piece collective inspired by the free-thinking, culturally disparate musical melting pot that is Los Angeles. Unflinchingly collaborative, badsoma’s upcoming self-titled EP features writing contributions from every member. Even the songs penned before the current lineup was assembled have been reworked take full advantage of an arty, jammy, communal vibe grounded in tangible melodies. Think later-period Wilco by way of Japanese Breakfast.
Written by bassist Donald Segien, “A Little Goes” was among those earlier tracks. “It was one of the first original songs we learned as a band,” says Armin. “In many ways, it set the tone for this EP and for badsoma’s early sound as a sextet. It pushed us to play more openly, and to listen to the nuances of each other’s playing styles. In the end it became a kind of sonic anchor for the rest of the songs on the record.”
We’re proud to premiere badsoma’s “A Little Goes.” Look for their self-released EP on November 14.
