MAGNET Exclusive: Premiere Of Kramer’s “Whispered For The Living”

For his first solo LP in five years, Kramer heads further down the ambient-cinema rabbit hole. “When creating these pieces, I simply follow my ears,” says the South Florida-based producer/provocateur best known for his work with Galaxie 500, Low and Daniel Johnston. “What picture am I hearing? How can I amplify that image for the listener?”

Kramer sees …And The Crimson Moon Whispers Goodbye (Shimmy-Disc) as a continuation of his recent work with Pan American’s Mark Nelson and other collaborators. “Each individual project is linked to each project that follows it, like the threading of a woven basket,” says Kramer. “I’m always bored to tears by plans, and I’m always energized and exhilarated by ideas that simply appear. These visual remixes begin in my mind, are executed in my studio and completed by the listener in the environment of their own choosing. It’s an invitation for the listener to join me in the process and complete my work—and I hope they see something they’ve never seen before.”
