Drawing power from its startling visual contradictions, “This Is My Masterpiece” combines real-life footage with eerie CGI, intentional VFX glitches and AI hallucinations. The overall disorienting effect blurs the line between human and machine in a world oblivious to its own inevitable devise. Sounds like a microcosm of our own current state of affairs, eh?
“This video isn’t meant to reassure anyone,” says Bleed Electric’s MUG5. “It’s meant to confront, disrupt and disturb—a mirror held to a world desperate to look away.”
Bleed Electric isn’t so much a band as it is a multimedia guerilla campaign fueled by mystery. After more than a decade of silence, the New York City-based project recently re-emerged after its music abruptly vanished from streaming platforms. An indefinable collision of electro, hip hop, rock, metal and soundtrack-like orchestration, Bleed Electric’s This Is My Masterpiece EP was originally released on Halloween 2012. And its sudden reappearance rings even more true than it did 13 years ago.
Like the group itself, the visual component of the EP’s title track is a riddle that rewards the open-minded. “If you can tell which moments are real, synthetic or imagined, you’re not paying attention,” says MUG5.
We’re proud to premiere Bleed Electric’s “This Is My Masterpiece” video.
