MAGNET Exclusive: Premiere Of Parlor Greens’ “Eat Your Greens”

There’s actually two Terry Coles. First, there’s the former high-school science teacher with an obsession for vintage jazz, soul and R&B—not just the music, but labels like Blue Note, Atlantic and Prestige and the utter coolness they embodied. Also smitten by the analog-friendly soul and funk revival spearheaded by Brooklyn’s Daptone imprint, Cole formed his own label in Loveland, Ohio, with his younger brother, Bob, in 2007. With its tongue-in-cheek retro flavor and a singles-focused business model, Colemine has since morphed into a full-fledged label group.

Which brings us to the other version of Cole: an indie-soul impresario who goes by the name of Leroi Conroy and serves as Colemine’s studio engineer, designer and talent scout. He didn’t have to go far to find Loveland’s Parlor Greens, a hard-driving instrumental trio heavy on groove and grit. “Eat Your Greens” is the first single from Parlor Greens’ sophomore effort, Emeralds, due this spring.

“Eat your greens, and feed your soul,” says Adam Scone, whose propulsive organ leads the way for a threesome that also includes drummer Tim Carman and guitarist Jimmy James. “It’s all slathered in a spicy sauce as only Parlor Greens can cook.”

We’re proud to premiere Parlor Greens’ “Eat You Greens.”
