The first new music from Orlando’s Sh-Booms in seven years clocks in at almost seven minutes and signals a move in an edgier, more experimental direction. But the dancefloor is never far off for this seasoned psych/soul outfit, even when factoring in the new-wave and post-punk elements that unexpectedly drive the epic-sounding title track to the Sh-Booms’ upcoming EP, This Is A Test (Limited Fanfare).
Produced by Grammy-nominated engineer Alan Armitage (Boyz II Men) at his The Snake Arcade studio in Orlando and mastered by Grammy winner Emily Lazar (Beck, Vampire Weekend, Minus Rhe Bear), “This Is A Test” lays the groundwork for a fresh sonic evolution for the group.
“It’s a sci-fi vision of two astronauts on a collision course in the cosmic ocean,” says bassist and bandleader Alfred Ruiz. “As they delve into the great unknown, they enter euphoric intergalactic love. But a treacherous mission may lay waste to the path forward. This is a test … Now hold your breath.”
