MAGNET Exclusive: Premiere Of Ghalia Volt’s “Ride” Video

In a perfect world, we’d remember everything we dream. Ghalia Volt awoke one morning knowing there was a song in her brain somewhere, so she recorded what she could on her phone.

“Then, days later, I was like, ‘Oh, what’s that recording?’” she says.

And that’s pretty much how Volt’s scorchingly upbeat new single came to be.

“The song is pure positivity,” says Volt. “A reminder to enjoy the journey and not just the destination.”

It’s been quite the journey for the Belgian-born, New Orleans-based singer, songwriter, guitarist and drummer, who’s used the blues as a potent springboard for a half-dozen albums that also owe a debt to  punk, psychobilly and garage rock. Her latest LP, Burn The House Down (Ruf), was tracked live in a two-day session in Nashville with well-credentialed producer/guitarist J.D. Simo (Jack White, Luther Dickinson, Joe Bonamassa). A scenic detour in itself, the video for “Ride” runs away with the song’s “glass half full” concept.

“It’s light and playful,” says Volt. “Things are heavy worldwide. So how about taking three minutes out of the day for a little levity?”

We’re proud to premiere Ghalia Volt’s “Ride.” Burn The House Down is out May 15.
