Tribal, almost animalistic beats start out Escort‘s “Makeover,” off the band’s self-titled, self-released debut (out January 31). Somehow singer Adeline Michèle’s pleading vocals over the thumping club backdrop elevate the song and the band: This ain’t your parent’s disco. The 17-piece outfit is made up of musicians who have played with everyone from Arcade Fire to Alarm Will Sound, and their varied backgrounds help to create Escort’s transient, sultry sound.
