Mrs. McGillvary was a tiny spinster born in a teacup
she pronounced the ‘d’ in Wednesday
and corrected radio announcers by phone
Mr. Thorne’s suits were thin at the elbows and knees
there was no Mrs. Thorne
God was so tired of kicking Miss Whitely
every time she let her guard down
Miss Whitely was even tireder than God
They’ll train you
they’ll take you by the hand
they’ll teach you
and tell you where to stand
