MAGNET Exclusive: Premiere Of Aurelia & Icarus Moth’s “Supernova” (Featuring Ehiorobo) Video

On “Supernova,” the creative chemistry between Aurelia and Icarus Moth feels about as natural as breathing, even if the pulse is electronic. “We have this musical rapport that feels really effortless,” says Aurelia. “They’ll start on something on keys, and I can write to it as they’re still figuring it out. Or I’ll bring in a project I start, and they’ll finish it in like an hour.”

Available June 30, the duo’s new Prometheans EP brings their diverse skill sets and viral success as solo artists to bear in a vast experimental soundscape that’s as all-consuming as it is alien. Raised in New York, Aurelia is also a well-respected visual artist whose images have appeared in Vogue Italia, Wonderland, Alternative Press and other outlets. A sexual-assault survivor, their venture into songwriting and production was prompted by a 2019 suicide attempt, hospitalization and PTSD diagnosis. Aurelia’s roommate of five years, Colorado-born Icarus Moth has balanced an award-winning career in commercial music with random excursions into R&B, EDM and whatever other genre strikes their fancy.

“‘Supernova’ came very naturally during a time when I really needed to reconnect with myself and my joy,” says Aurelia. “There was a lot I was processing, especially around gender, queerness and healing. But I didn’t want the track to sit in that heaviness. I wanted it to feel like what I craved most in that moment: freedom and movement.”

The track also features a mechanized dispatch from another former roommate—one that sounds like it was transmitted from a galaxy far, far away. “I tried to have my vocal feature feel like I was contributing to the ‘in my bag’ kind of environment they both created,” says Ehiorobo, a New Jersey-born singer and producer who records under his Nigerian name.

“It always feels like seeing an old friend when I get back into the EDM stuff,” says Icarus Moth. “I resonate with the hypnotic nature of house music, and it felt like a great medium to tell a story about loving yourself and being confident.”

We proud to premiere Aurelia & Icarus Moth’s “Supernova” (Featuring Ehiorobo).
