Over the past dozen or so years, Kyle Morgan has forged a notable reputation around New York City for his sturdy songwriting, initially under the indie-folk alias Starcrossed Losers. Scene fixture Tamar Korn was among those who took notice, inviting him to sit in with her for a few shows in Brooklyn. To say the two gelled vocally is an understatement. They harmonize with an almost sublime ease on their new duo LP, Darkening Green (Jalopy), available August 15.
“I’ve Had My Fun” is one of two Morgan originals on an album that includes renditions of songs by the Carter Family, Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, Iris Dement, the Platters and Leonard Cohen. “It’s an older tune of mine written in the initial wake of disillusionment with drinking, party life, etc. When you swear, ‘This is the last time,’ only to discover there can be many more last times,” says Morgan, the product of a churched upbringing in central Pennsylvania. “It’s my attempt to relate playfully and more compassionately with patterns that perpetuate distress in our lives.”
Where does the tune fall in the context of Darkening Green?
“It’s another melancholic expression of impermanence, an homage to the turning and returning of seasons,” he says.
We’re proud to premiere Kyle Morgan & Tamar Korn’s “I’ve Had My Fun.”
