“Kill Her Mind” documents a disorienting, ruminative tailspin seemingly triggered by a sudden separation. The leadoff track from Suspend, Nikita Lev’s relentlessly self-aware new EP, unfolds like the aural aftermath of an extended panic attack, its pulsing woosh of frayed emotion powered by echoey guitars and an insistent groove
“It’s like your mind is working against you, replaying things over and over, and you just want it to shut off,” says Lev. “The video is an invitation to bring more context and color to the song.”
Now back in New York City after an aborted relocation to Los Angeles, Lev is a bit of an indie-pop enigma, building buzz via word-of-mouth performances, including a noteworthy set for New York Fashion Week’s Nili Lotan Music Series. She also models, currently dividing her time between the U.S. and France, where “Kill Her Mind” was shot.
“(Director) Jason Renaud and I ended up being in Paris at the same time, and we did it in one night,” she says. “I wanted to convey a feeling of dissonance in people.”
We’re proud to premiere Nikita Lev’s “Kill Her Mind” video. The self-released Suspend is out now.
