MAGNET Exclusive: Premiere Of Headfooter’s “Never Enough”

File Weird Scene (Minimum Table Stacks) under “Irresistibly Unhinged DIY Curiosity.” Featuring a dozen acts of all music-industry stripes, this oddball compilation was curated by Brooklyn scenester Jeremy Willis to spotlight many of the creative types he’s collaborated with over two decades in the borough’s Greenpoint neighborhood. Other local heroes include Oscar/Grammy/Golden Globe winner Anthony Rossomundo (Dirty Pretty Things, Libertines, Lady Gaga), Kyp Malone (TV On The Radio), Adam Green (Moldy Peaches) and Matt McAuley (A.R.E. Weapons).

Headfooter’s Jay Henry is the among the album’s newer voices. “Dance music isn’t always so personal and melted psychedelic,” says Willis. “Besides Jay’s incredible voice and insane facility for self-production, there’s something really cool about the way he uses it to joyfully release and process intense and challenging personal topics.”

Everything we could glean about Headfooter is contained in this compelling professional bio:

“Jay loves music. Jay loves making music—specifically, music that makes people move. Jay finds that the most moving. Move with him. Move in with him. Help him carry a couch up flights of stairs. He just signed a lease on a walkup and could really use the help. He can’t pay you. Don’t ask him to. He gets really mad when you ask him to, so don’t ask him.”

Headfooter’s latest single is “Never Enough.” A surreally nostalgic take on family dynamics, the video for the track (much like the Devo-meets-disco ditty itself) manages to both irritate and resonate.

“I called my good friend Dylan Mars Greenberg, and I yelled at her,” says Henry. “I said, ‘We need another one, or the people will forget about us! This is an attention economy, and we’re falling behind.’ After she finished crying, we brainstormed ideas and came up with this video. I dare anyone to tell me it’s not our best work. Better yet, I’m happy to meet anyone in the ring who says this isn’t our magnum opus. I want blood. I want teeth. I want Manimal back on television.”

We’re proud to premiere Headfooter’s “Never Enough.”
