MAGNET Exclusive: Premiere Of Tigers In Cairo’s Covers Of Jawbreaker’s “Do You Still Hate Me?” And Mission Of Burma’s “That’s How I Escaped My Certain Fate”

Already busy in the studio working on originals for the new year, Tigers In Cairo wanted to close out 2025 with a gift to their fans: the As Told By… double single. Jawbreaker’s “Do You Still Hate Me?” and Mission Of Burma’s “That’s How I Escaped My Certain Fate” were the perfect candidates for the giving season, as both have become staples in the band’s live sets.

“The Jawbreaker tune is actually one of eight we learned for a Halloween tribute set,” says Matt Yansch, drummer for the San Diego-based neo-punk purists. “But the Mission Of Burma track is actually a full-circle situation for our guitarist.”

Years ago, Tigers In Cairo’s Gavin Rhodes covered the song with a previous band during an opening set for Chicago cult favorite Pegboy, which had just released its own Mission Of Burma cover of “That’s When I Reach For My Revolver.” Fast forward to 2025, and the group was again opening for Pegboy on its comeback tour.

“We learned ‘That’s How I Escaped My Certain Fate’ to mark the occasion,” says Yansch. “It was a special moment for us. And we hope you enjoy our take on these two classics.”

We’re proud to premiere Tigers In Cairo’s As Told By… double single. Look for new music from the band in 2026.
