Those of us who were walloped by this past weekend’s winter storm could use little of what Endearments are selling on “Summersun.”
“There’s something about taking the train or walking by the water to clear your head that feels very much a part of living in New York City,” says Kevin Marksson, the sprightly indie-pop trio’s primary songwriter. “I wanted the video for ‘Summersun’ to visually convey the same feeling of self-searching.”
Shaking up the lushly forlorn, synth-laced foundation of bands like Camera Obscura and Lo Moon with a crafty, power-pop urgency, Endearments have been holding their own in Brooklyn’s competitive scene. Available March 6, An Always Open Door (Trash Casual) is an effortlessly confident debut, boasting the sort of sharp songwriting and plentiful hooks that should expand the group’s reach. The album was produced by Abe Seiferth (Nation Of Language, Guerilla Toss) and features guest vocals from Liv Price (Forever Honey) and contributions from guitarist Chris Croarkin (Diary).
Marksson brought his idea for the “Summersun” video to director Paul DeSilva, who suggested 8mm film. “The color of the footage and the exposure of the light really reinforce this feeling of universal melancholy,” says Marksson. “I love the way the video cuts the two stories together to show how our personal journeys often overlap in ways both internal and external.”
We’re proud to premiere Endearments’ “Summersun.”
