If you’ve ever gotten behind the wheel in Atlanta, you know what you’re in for. Kevn Kinney sure does. The hardscrabble Southern raconteur has made the nation’s fifth worst traffic city his home since 1982. He even lived in his car while working a sewage-plant gig before forming the pioneering alt-country/Americana band Drivin N Cryin in 1985.
“‘Why Don’t You Go Around?’ is also a lesson to myself about trying to follow others,” says Kinney, who’s in the final stages of prepping DNC’s 10th studio album, Crushing Flowers, for an April 10 self-release. “I’ve been influenced before by the success of parallel artists. It took me 20 years to just enjoy the music, style and success without feeling like someone was passing me by. No one is passing you by. But, yeah, that part about Atlanta traffic is just true … Go around!”
We’re proud to premiere Drivin N Cryin’s “Why Don’t You Go Around?” Look for our track-by-track rundown of Crushing Flowers in the near future.
