MAGNET Exclusive: Premiere Of Suneaters’ “Home”

Los Angeles can do a number on even the most resilient musician. For Chris Lost, his aborted late-’80s tenure with West Coast glam rockers Dr.Doctor was enough to send him back to Kansas City for a little experimental home cooking. He formed Suneaters’ core with modern-day Dadaist Scott Hartley on bass and poet/attorney David Saab on drums. Inspired by everyone from Graham Nash to Flipper to Kool Keith, the band kicked off a series of numbered and themed LPs in 2011, each less disjointed and experimental—and more melody-driven and succinct—than the last.

Their new single, “Home,” falls into the latter camp while retaining the cryptic, expansive weirdness that’s always been a Suneaters trademark.

“It’s a tale of domestic isolation with a nod to psychopathic idiot Charlie Manson and his almost-good song, which we first heard as a Lemonheads cover,” says Lost.

We’re proud to premiere Suneaters’ “Home.” Look for Suneaters V: Heroic Dose via Lotuspool on June 19.
