MAGNET Exclusive: Premiere Of Serafima And The Shakedowns’ “Shivers”

“Shivers” is a love/hate ode to Seattle from someone who seemingly can’t get enough of the Emerald City.

“It’s a cloud-soaked rumination that finds the song’s lonely voice wondering, ‘Is there anyone out there?’” says Shakedowns frontwoman Serafima Healy of the latest single off the band’s debut LP, Ride Easy, out May 1 via the Wales-based Bwgibwgan imprint.

Four years young, the Shakedowns began as an excuse to hang out with friends and have since evolved into a legitimate conduit for their fearless leader’s “un-Americana” vision—one speckled with such influences as Johnny and June Carter Cash, Kimya Dawson, Joni Mitchell, Lily Allen, Dan Reeder and Cake. That far-flung palette made improvisational rocker Dan Horne (Cass McCombs, Beachwood Sparks, Mikaela Davis) a logical fit to produce the band’s debut, which was tracked at his UHF Studio in Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, back in Seattle, Healy has witnessed an exodus.

“My friends have left the city, and I’ve heard I’m supposed to have a guardian angel,” says Healy. “But where is she? Maybe she’s hiding behind the marine layer.”

We’re proud to premiere Serafima & The Shakedowns’ “Shivers.”
